We purchase rare and unusual books in ALL areas - in very good or better condition. We are most interested in purchasing:

  • Fine Bindings in Excellent Condition
  • First Editions by Notable Authors (if uncommon)
  • Uncommon Books Printed in the 19th Century or Earlier
  • 16th Century Books and Incunabula
  • Subjects Areas of Particular Interest:

    • Children's Literature,
    • Fashion & Textiles,
    • Fine 19th Century Literature by Major Authors,

If you have individual books to sell, please e-mail us at info@kelmscottbookshop.com with pictures of the binding and title page. If you are unable to send pictures, please e-mail us with the following information:

  • Author
  • Title
  • Publisher
  • Publishing Date (from title page)
  • Brief Description of Binding (cloth, leather, decorative elements)
  • Any Condition Issues (missing pages, damage to covers, tears, etc.)
  • Special Features (author's signature, limitation, slipcase, etc.)

If you have a collection of books to sell (over 100), please email us with pictures of shelves and/or a general description of the contents including:

  • Approximate age (20th, 19th, 18th, 17th century?)
  • Approximate condition (lots of missing covers, water damage, etc.)
  • Genres included (literature, history, children's, etc.)
  • Approximate number of books (100 / 1,000 / 5,000?)
  • General location of the collection (city and state)
  • Any items you think might be of particular interest (signed, limited, etc.)

 

Please allow 2 - 5 business days for a response. If you have not heard from us after several days, please feel free to follow up with an email or phone call.

Please note that before committing to purchase your book(s), we need to examine your book(s) in person.

We DO NOT provide appraisals. If you require a formal appraisal for tax, insurance, or estate purposes, please visit the Bookseller section of the Antiquarian Booksellers' Association of America (ABAA) and search for an appraiser near you. If you are interested in value for personal interest, the Rare Book and Manuscript Section of the American Library Association maintains a helpful resource page.
