Missing free front endpaper and last page of the "Approbation" in rear. Interior is in very good condition with tight textblock and foxing. A few pages in middle have light dampstaining to margins and edges of text. Antiquated signature of previous owner in pen on the front endpage and title page. An attractive book. 437 pages. Minor overall edgewear to boards, front outer hinge very tender and nearly detatched. A few light margin notes in pencil. Interior is otherwise very clean with very clean black and white illustrated frontis and title page with original tissue guard. Gilt top edge with untrimmed edges to fore and bottom. 226 pages. Paris: P. Didot L'Aine, 1822. Hardcover. Very good minus full brown leather tiny volume (5.4 x 3.4 x 0.8), gilt tooling around board edges, marbled endpapers and edges. Lacks leather spine, has been reinforced with maroon tape, which also covers the hinges. Handwritten label to spine. Inner hinges have been reinforced with brown tape as well, split near front hinge at half-title page but the maroon tape on the outside keeps it together (half-title is loose, but still bound into textblock). Laid-paper interior is lightly browned but text remains bright. Only minor foxing throughout. In French. 238 pages. French. FRE/12043. Very Good -.

Chipping and creasing to leather on spine and corners. Crack to spine. Marble endpapers. Previous owner's bookplate to front paste down.
