Terminal Home

Watertown, MA: Marcia Ciro, 2005. Softcover. Number 2 of 8 copes signed and numbered by the book artist. Marcia Ciro is an accomplished and widely collected book artist. She writes of this striking yet poignant work: “Caring for an aging and ill parent brings a final end to youthful notions of immortality. This book explores dying as a thing not to be feared, but as a welcome release. Playing on the word terminal, meaning ‘end’ and ‘part of an airport,’ and using nighttime images of a plane taxi-ing down a runway, the three books in this series progress from words of ending to words of home, as the plane takes off for the heavens. The bookcloth-covered container enfolds the books, while the shape looks like a cross-section of an airplane wing.”

This work is comprised of three books covered in black paper with the image of lightning bolts on the front covers. Each has photographs and text printed in archival inkjet on Moab paper. The three are housed in a oval shaped orange cloth wrap box with the paper title on the front. It is held closed with a tiny button and small clasp. Each book measures 4.5 x 5.5 inches that open to 30 inches. An inventive work in fine condition. ARTB/082525.
Fine.
