Venice? Felice Valgrisi? ca. 16th century. Three leaves from what has been identified as a 16th century Italian edition of Orlando Furioso. The research of the former owner of the leaves led him to believe that the pages are from an edition printed by Felice Valgrisi in 1574. However, further research does not show Valgrisi printing Orlando Furioso before the 1580s, and that he only began his printing career in 1574. The leaves are for pages 369-370, and 391-394. The pages include decorated initials, Two of the pages have an opening "argomento" - subject - with a pictorial border. There is also a full-page illustration. The leaves pages show aging and the top and bottom margins and right fore-edges are browned. Still very good examples of fine sixteenth century printing. Measures 7 x 10 inches. EPHEM/042423. Very Good.
