Antonio Nibby (1792 – 1839) was an Italian archaeologist and topographer. He was an expert on the topography of Rome and its environs. He was a professor of archaeology in the University of Rome and in the French Academy in Rome. For a few years Nibby worked together with the British archaeologist William Gell and together they published a study on the walls of Rome in 1820. They had plans of publishing a study on the topography of the Roman Campagna, but they ended up publishing separately [Wikipedia].

Bound in half vellum with paper marbled boards. Red and brown leather spine labels with title and volume number. Vellum is stained, rubbed, and bumped with fraying and small tears to spine edges. All of the volumes have scattered browning and foxing. The called for map by Gell is not present. Still a nice readable set in good plus condition. Small quartos.
