Oxford: J. Skelton, 1823. Hardcover. A handsome volume on the counties of Oxfordshire with Skelton's skilled and detailed full page engravings and text vignettes. The work is organized by county, with a list of their parishes and hamlets. Each is paginated separately. There is a several page history for each and descriptions of the locales and noteworthy sights. This is followed by the plates of antiquities found there. Bound in three quarter black leather with green cloth covers. Gilt title to spine. Covers and leather are bumped, rubbed, and worn along the edges. Marbled endpapers. Bookplate of James Jackson on front endpaper. Front hinge is split but the text block is tight. Interior pages are clean with some light aging to margins. The plates are indeed beautiful but the margins of their pages are spotted and foxed to varying degrees, generally not affecting the images. A nice copy of this large and interesting book. Measures 11.5 x 14 inches. About 200 pages of text and plates. ENGHIST/072822. Very Good.
