Brussels: François Foppens, 1723. A new edition, divided into five volumes, enriched with figures and augmented with several treatises, contracts, wills, and other new documents. This popular work was reprinted several times in the 17th and 18th centuries. Bound in red leather with gilt rulings and title and volume labels to spines. All edges gilt. Joints are rubbed as is leather, and there is bumping and significant wear to each volume. Spine labels are chipped with pieces missing from some. Marbled endpapers with gilt dentelles. Ex-library with spine label stating Quebec Library. Library label on front pastedown "Bibliotheca Lamoniana," covered with another label with the shelf location. The Bibliotheca Lamoniana was a family library built up over two centuries, the most important collector being the last, Chrétien-François de Lamoignon (1735-1789). All of the books in this collection had an unusual mark of ownership, a crowned L in the margin of page 3 of the text. This is present in these volumes. Interior pages have varying degrees of aging and occasional spots. Still quite legible and in very good condition.
