Item #25042 The Carletons. Robert Grant, Wilson De Meza.

The Carletons

New York: Robert Bonner's Sons, 1891. Paperback. VERY SCARCE. According to the Dime Novel Bibliography website, Robert Grant (1852-1940) was the author of this novel that was published as part of the Ledger Library series of inexpensive paperbacks published by Robert Bonner's Sons. Wikipedia lists Robert Grant (1852-1940) as an American writer and a jurist who received the first Ph.D. in English granted by Harvard in 1876 and a law degree in 1879. Grant was a prolific novelist who first novel was published in 1880 and last novel was published in 1931. The Carletons is not listed in Wikipedia's partial bibliography, but other facts between the two websites match. At the same time as he wrote, Grant was a probate court judge. He was named by Massachusetts' Governor to serve on an Advisory Committee to review the trial of Sacco and Vanzetti to assess whether the trial had been fair. Obviously, a busy and interesting personage. 8vo. Beige paper wraps with red title and illustration to front wrapper and black title to spine. Minor soiling and browning to wraps as well as minor chipping to edges. Minor browning to edges of pages though text and illustrations remains clean and bright. 309 pages + ads. Literature.
