Nine Little Goslings

Boston: Roberts Brothers, 1895. Hardcover. Susan Coolidge was the pen name for Sarah Chauncey Woolsey (1835-1905). She was a prodigious author of children's book. She began writing after serving as a nurse during the Civil War. She is best known for her children's novel What Katy Did (1872), which was modeled after her own family. Nine Little Goslings (initially published in 1875) is a charming collection of nine short stories for children, most with a moral lesson attached. Includes illustrations. Very good in mustard yellow cloth boards with gilt title to spine. Maroon illustration of daisies to spine and front board. Chipping to book cloth on spine ends and minor wear to corners. Minor browning to margins of pages. Light foxing to end pages. Minor chipping to the edges of a few pages. The front hinge is starting, although the boards remain firmly attached. 289 pages plus ads. CHILD/080108. Very Good.
