The Pride of the Village, and Other Tales from "the Sketch Book"
Philadelphia: J.P. Lippincott Company, 1886. Hardcover. First edition. Illustrated with "original designs by eminent artists" although they are not named. The title story is about a young woman who slowly fades away after her lover abandons her. Modern critics often find it to be melodramatic; however, it was popular in its day.
Dark brown cloth backed brown paper covered boards with gilt title and illustration to front board. Minor wear, a few scuff marks, and rubbing to edges of boards. Bright, clean interior with numerous illustrations. In very good condition. 80 pages. LIT/091906. Very Good.
