The Communist World and Ours
London: Hamish Hamilton, (1959). Hardcover. Walter Lippmann (1889-1974) was one of the most famous American journalists and political commentators of the mid-20th century. He was keenly interested in socialism and communism, and especially in the role that the Soviet Union and Communist China would play on the world stage. He was one of the first to introduce the concept of the Cold War, which was the title of his book published in 1947. Lippmann won two Pulitzer Prizes, one for his syndicated newspaper column and one for his 1961 interview of Nikita Khrushchev. This work predates the 1961 interview, and it summarizes a 2-hour meeting he had with Khrushchev in Russia in 1958. The talk revealed to him Russia's aspirations, which are described in the first part, "A Talk With Mr. K". This is followed by an expression of Lippmann's concerns in a part titled "The Soviet Challenge." FIRST EDITION. Very scarce in the Hamish Hamilton edition published in London. 12mo. Red paper covered boards with black title to spine. Slight rolling to spine. Brown/grey dust jacket with title in blue to front panel and spine panel. Some sunning to dust jacket. Slight browning to end pages. 56 pages. COMM/106030. Very Good / Very Good.
