Munich; New York: Braun & Schneider; E. Weye Art Books in All Languages, circa 1900. Hardcover. Mit 125 Bogen, enthaltend 500 Koftümbilder aus verschiedenen Jahrhunderten. These pages were originally printed from 1861 to 1880 in Munich by the publisher Bruan and Schneider as individual plates in a German magazine. Later these plates were collected and bound into book form - 125 pages with four pictures per page for a total of 500 costume designs. The plates feature historical dress from antiquity to the end of the 19th century, but it should be noted that they have been influenced by Victorian fashion and are not totally accurate. The last 35 pages have contemporary folk dress. This book has been professionally rebacked with dark green buckram. The boards are original in dark green cloth with gilt title and illustration to front board. Black and gilt paper title label to spine. Wear to corners and edges of boards. Fading and rubbing to boards. Browning to many interior pages, else clean. Printed in full color - chromolithographs througout. An excellent resource. The entire book is plates and all captions are in German; however, understanding German is not necessary to utilize this book. Size: Folio. Unpaginated. FASH/080522. Very Good.
