1936. Paperback. Louise Dyer (1884 - 1962) was an Australian pianist and patron of the arts. She helped to found the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, founded a publishing company (Editions de l'Oiseau-Lyre) that printed historical editions of music and later issued recorded performances. She had an extensive book and music collection and in honor of her, the University of Melbourne Music Library was renamed the Louise Hanson-Dyer Library. This small keepsake is an extract from the musical miscellany in the library of the Dyer's; it reproduces a song, frontispiece, and part of the preface from The Musical Miscellany: A Select Collection of Scots, Englisch, and Irish Songs Set to Music, 1786. The front cover of the pamphlet reads "December 27, 1911 James Louise Dyer December 27 1936." The couple married in 1911 and James died just two years after this booklet was published. Perhaps he was ill at the time of publication as the song that she has chosen is mornful "Good Night and Joy be with you." White side-stapled wrappers with illustration of a feather on front cover. The spine is a bit worn and there is a closed tear along the hinge. The covers are foxed with a few finger smudges, but the interior remains bright. [8 pages.] MUS/121113. Very Good.
