Carbondale, PA: C.R. Munn, 1900. Hardcover. Second edition, revised and augmented. A scarce turn-of-the-century regional cookbook with recipes submitted by the many young lady workers from the church. The recipes range from the proverbial soup to nuts and the names of the women who submitted them are given. Equally interesting are the many handwritten recipes on the pastedowns, endpapers, and within the cookbook. There are also many handwritten recipes on various types of paper that are inserted. Most of them are for baked goods and sweets. There are two ownership signatures on the front pastedown dated 1903 and 1907. The book is bound in unlabeled black paper covered boards that have odd remnants of paper and string attached. The interior of the book is in generally very good condition. The hinges are weak but holding, and the free endpapers are torn. The text pages are very good with a few small scattered marks. Measures 5 x 7.5 inches.107 pages. COOK/081519. Very Good -.
