Lipsiae [Leipzig]: Sumptibus Et Typis B.G. Teubneri, 1830. Hardcover. Marcus Tullius Cicero (106 B.C.-43 B.C.) was the renowned Roman philosopher, politician, and orator. De Officiis, "The Duties," was written the year before he was assassinated and published posthumously. The work was divided into three books. This small volume is bound in quarter leather with marbled paper boards. Chipped, bumped, and rubbed. Paper spine label is tattered. Interior pages are browned and foxed although text is still quite legible. Small library stamp and sticker. A good plus copy of a relatively scarce edition. In Latin. 107 pages. PHIL/010814. Good +.

This book was first published in 1725, anonymously written by Francis Hutcheson (1694 - 1745), a Scottish philosopher who wrote about human nature emphasizing an innate care for others and a basic moral sense. This work examines the internal perception of beauty and how it relates to external senses. It also discusses the moral sense and how we perceive vice and virtue in others. Full leather with raised bands to spine. Chipping to leather on head of spine and crack to front hinge. A few minor cracks to leather on spine and slight cock to spine.
