Marble endpapers which are faded/rubbed. Laid paper interior is very clean with several spots of foxing and some fading to endpages only. Very light soiling to title page and half-title. Leather chipped on spine. Bumping and chipping to corners and edges. Interior pages have scattered foxing, browning to page edges. Ink notations on front pastedown and endpapers as well as some notes in text margins. About very good. Measures 5.25 x 9 inches. 802 pages. More
Paris: Isidore Liseux, 1879. Hardcover. Poggio (1380 - 1459) was an Italian scholar and early Renaissance humanist. He is best known for rediscovering many classical Latin texts. This set includes the life of Poggio, a memorial of the works of Poggio, and his tales. Ex-library with library stamp mostly removed from bottom of title pages and library stickers removed from front boards and rear endpapers. Both volumes are bound in three quarter red leather over marbled paper covered boards with gilt titles to spines. Minor wear to hinges and edges of boards. Marbled endpapers and top edges gilt. Both volumes have the original vellum wrappers bound in to the rear. Clean interiors with head and tailpieces and engraved initials. Text in English and Latin. An attractive set despite being ex-library. Volume I has 203 pages; Volume II has 248 pages plus 7 pages of ads. Very Good. More

Reprinted for the first time from a copy now unique printed by Thomas Crede in 1597. This finely printed letterpress edition is printed on Batchelor's Kelmscott hand-made paper. This Grecian romance novel is considered to be an important predecessor to the modern novel. Bound in off-white paper over brown paper covered boards with paper title labels to spine and front board. The spine and the spine title label are browned and has many chips to the edges, affecting several letters. Bumping to foot of spine and bottom edge of rear board. Minor wear to edges and corners of boards, minor soiling to edge of front board, and minor rubbing to boards. Clean, bright interior. Birminghamae: Typis Johannis Baskerville, 1772. Hardcover. Lucretius (99 - 55 BCE) was a Roman poet and philosopher. This poem (in six books) is his only known work. It discusses the mechanical properties of nature and states that the soul is mortal and parishes with the death of the body. Founded by Swiss poet and designer Gottard de Beauclair, the Trajanus Presses produced letterpress books with illustrations from 1951 - 1977. He was the artistic director of a typefoundry alongside Hermann Zapf and Georg Kurt Schauer. In blue patterned paper covered boards with tan leather title label to spine. Sunning to spine and edges of boards. Minor rubbing to title label. Light wear to edges of boards and gentle bumping to bottom corners. Clean, bright interior printed in black and red with 14 woodcuts by Fritz Kredel, handcolored at the Silwar workshop in Pfungstadt. Letterpress printed by Fritz Kredel on Hahnemühle handmade paper.
