Baltimore: Norman Publishing Company, 1932. Hardcover. Number 15 of 200 copies in the large paper edition. Signed by the author. Baltimore author Edward Lucas White (1866 - 1934) wrote many novels, but is best known for his fantasy horror stories, many of which were based on his own nightmares. This book, "Matrimony," is largely autobiographical and was written about his experiences with love throughout his life culminating with his marriage and life with Agnes Gerry. He had a happy marriage with Agnes despite her poor health and senility in later years. This book book both honors her and mourns her loss. He committed suicide seven years to the day after she died. Dark blue leatherette boards with gilt title to spine and front cover. Wear and rubbing to hinges, edges of boards, and corners. Small white marking to rear cover. Includes laid-in papers with quotes from the book and biographical information about the author. Clean interior overall with occasional pencil notations in margins and occasional spots of foxing.
