Jena: Eugen Diederichs, 1910. Hardcover. Number 214 of 1000 copies. A handsomely printed German edition of the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Printed under the supervision of well known typographer Rudolf Koch using a typeface designed by him. Bound in brown leather with embossed design to cover and black titling to spine. Originally closed with leather thongs attaching to front clasps but the thongs have broken. Leather on covers is rubbed and corners are bumped. Wear along joints. Front hinge is cracked but text block is firm. Beautiful decorative endpapers. Title page printed in a calligraphic style in black and red. Interior pages area clean and bright with top edges gilt and darkening to fore-edge and lower edge. Very good condition. Measures 8 x 10.5 inches. 310 pages. GERLANG/121322. Very Good.

Includes two fold out plates to rear. Very good black paper covered boards with red and gilt title label to spine "Mayer's Astronomie." Wear to hinges, edges of boards, and corners. Heavy rubbing to paper covering boards. Stamp from the Meterological Society to title page and remnant of stamp to endpage. Previous owner signature dated 1825 to front endpage. An interesting German publication exploring the striking graphic works of Eberhard Eggers. There are more than 200 color and black and white images. Wilhelm Paul Eberhard Eggers (1939-2004) was a German graphic artist, painter,sculptor,and Freemason. Artistically, he was considered a representative of modern fantastic realism, whose works are mainly mannerist in their richness of images [Wiki]. Bound in light brown cloth with gilt title to front cover. In a pictorial blue dust jacket with title in black to spine and front cover. Jacket has light signs of handling. Near fine condition. Friedrich W. Kleukens (1878 - 1956) was a typeface designer, artist, and member of the Darmstadt Artists' Colony. Dark brown cloth covered boards with gilt emblem to front cover and gilt title to embossed spine. The leather is heavily worn and chipped. Both boards are nearly detached with a long split to the leather along the front hinge. Includes laid in ephemera including an old railroad ticket, newspaper article, and some dried leaves. The pages browned with some foxing, offsetting from laid-in ephemera, and occasional browning. Detailed engravings. 604 pages. A good candidate for restoration. German. GER/5023. Good.
