In lavender dust jacket with pictorial cover and title in blue to spine which has faded to light blue. Jacket shows Minor edgewear and scuffing including a small open tear to top edge of front cover. Book bound in lavender paper covered boards with yellow title and authors to spine. In vg condition save for slight bumping to corners. New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1907. Hardcover. FIRST EDITION. In his forward, Pyle states that this is the third book that he has set himself to write concerning the history of King Arthur and his puissant knights. With 47 full page and half title black and white illustrations by Pyle. A previous owner tried his/her hand at hand coloring several of the full page plates, with varying degrees of success. The coloring does not disguise the beautiful work by Pyle, however. Bound in brown cloth with red and black cover design of a shield and gilt title and grphon designs to spine. Cover is stained, with mottled white spots on both front and back covers. Offsetting to front paste down and free end page, and one of free rear end pages torn out. Interior otherwise is in very good condition if you don't count the hand coloring and this is still quite a nice book. 340 pages. LIT/061710. Very Good.

Includes 40 full color illustrations by Arthur Rackham, each mounted on brown cardstock with captioned tissue guards. Also includes numerous black and white illustrations, some full page and some within the text. Bound in the original vellum boards with gilt title and floral decoration to spine and small emblem of Shakespeare to front cover. The spine design is by Ottomar Starke. Rubbing and light soiling to covers, edges of boards, and spine, as is common. There is a three inch split to the vellum along the bottom of the front hinge; however, the split only affects the top layer and the board remains firmly attached. Light dampstain to top edges of both covers, which also affects the top edges (top margins only) of multiple interior pages. Lacks ribbon ties. Text in German. A few pages have small spots of soiling or finger smudge marks and a few have chips to the edges, but the book remains very clean and bright overall. A beautiful book despite the noted condition issues. 132 pages plus plates. CHILD/081717. Very Good.
