I give it: / To my dearly loved Molly, the severest and most helpful critic of my verse, the gentlest and most helpful critic of my conduct, the best of my exemplars. / Maurice / May 1948 / London". Browne was a well known poet, actor, and theater director. Bound in black cloth with gilt ornament to front cover and author and title to spine. Light bumping to corners and signs of handling but very good. Light offsetting to pastedowns but interior otherwise clean. In cream dust jacket with title and author in black to spine and front cover. Light bumping and rubbing with horizontal crease in middle of covers but still very good. 110 pages. POE/110316. This poem was published in Ellen's next book, Verses Grave and Otherwise, where it is identified as a memorial to Prince Albert Victor, Duke of Clarence (1864 - 1892). Bound in original blue cloth boards with brown cloth spine titled in gilt. A few chips to cloth along spine, wear to edges of boards and corners, and a few spots of foxing to interior. London: David Bogue, circa 1880. Hardcover. Illustrated with etchings on steel by Birket Foster. Good in full red leather boards with gilt title and lavish gilt tooling to spine. Both boards feature ornate geometric gilt tooling with an obvious Eastern influence. Unfortunately, the front board is detached and there is a large chip to the head of the spine. The edges and corners of the boards and spine are worn and the gilt is rubbed in a few places. There are a few smudges to the interior. Nearly every page is illustrated. Marbled end pages and full gilt edges. At one time this was a beautiful book but now it is deeply in need of restoration. 39 pages. POE/090109. Good.
