It was printed at the Ballantyne Press under the supervision of the founder of the Vale Press, Charles Ricketts. Michael Field was the pseudonym of the poets/playrights Katherine Harris Bradley and Edith Cooper, who were aunt and niece as well as lesbian lovers. They were part of the 1890s circle and close friends of Charles Ricketts and his partner, Charles Shannon. Bound in printed paper covered boards in buff and green with 'dead leaves' design over grey-blue paper covered spine with paper title label to spine. Browning to spine, title label, and top edges of boards. Minor wear to corners and edges of boards. Small spots of foxing to boards and a few spots of soiling to spine and boards. Bump and chipping to foot of spine. Offsetting to endpapers and occasional spots of foxing to interior, but clean and bright overall. Foxing to fore-edge. Printed in red and black Vale type. There was also a regular edition of 349 copies. Printed from type by the H. Wolff Book Manufacturing Co., Inc with illustrations printed in offset lithography by the Zeese-Wilkinson Co. According to the acknowledgment and thanks: "All materials and services have been contributed to the Joint Anti-Fascist Refugee Committee, sponsors of this special edition. All proceeds from the sale of this edition will be turned over to the Committee, whose work is to arrange for the transporation to Mexico of victims of the Fascist terror in French concentration camps." This play has the theme of anti-fascism. Bound in full dark brown leather with raised bands, gilt title and author to spine. Gilt dentelles and brown cloth endpapers. Monmouthshire, England: The Old Stile Press, 2008. Hard Cover. Number 70 of 195 copies in Main Edition. Illustrated by Michael Onken and signed by him. This book came when the McDowells, proprietors of the press, discovered this text among the papers of George Mackay Brown. He wrote it in 1984 and it had a single public reading but was never published. The play draws on the tales of the Selkie folk. The American artist, Michael Onken, has found Orkney to be his "spiritual" home, and also was drawn to the Selkie legends. This book is a result of the play's discovery. Bound in cream cloth front cover with illustration in brown. Backing and rear board are blue linen. Housed in fine grey slipcase with paper illustration of Mackay Brown affixed to front. Designed and printed by Nicolas McDowell in Albertina type on grey Velin Arches paper. The artist's wood engravings, woodcuts,and linocut images were printed in black and white from the original blocks. Binding by The Fine Book Bindery using paper printed at The Old Stile Press. In her foreword, Carolyn Hammer explains why they chose Capell's 18th century text for this book, including why they retained the unusual punctuation and "novelties" found in Capell. Bound in decorated paper evocative of the island on which the play's characters were stranded, with a black linen spine with a title label. Printed on Magnani paper with the text composed in Victor Hammer's American Uncial typeface. In her afterword, Carolyn thanks her collaborators on this production and notes that the Chiaroscuro woodcut on the title page was commissioned especially for the Anvil Press edition.
