Item #4036 Some South African Recollections. Mrs. Lionel Phillips.

Some South African Recollections.

London: Longmans, Green, and Co., 1899. Hardcover. 1st edition. According to the preface: "These recollections ... have been written as a record for my children of the part played by their father in the Reform movement in the Transvaal, as they were at the time too young to understand or appreciate all he did and suffered for the good cause. I have endeavoured to explain the origin of the movement, and why, for the moment, it failed. I venture to publish what I have written, as I am led to believe there are many people interested in the subject, but not sufficiently informed as to the true course of events, who would be glad to read the testimony of a South African." Very good green cloth covered boards with gilt title to spine. Minor rubbing to boards as well as bumping to spine ends and corners. Inscription to front free end page dated 1899. Light foxing throughout though text remains bright. Frontis w/original tissue + 35 other photo plates w/tissue. 183 pages. Africa. AFR/4053. Very Good.
