Mount Horeb, WI: Perishable Press, 1994. Softcover. Number 49 of 125 copies. This is a collection of poems written by Joel Oppenheimer. Oppenheimer (1930 - 1988) was an American poet associated with both the Black Mountain poets and the New York School. He was the first director of the St. Marks Poetry Project. Though a poet, Oppenheimer was perhaps better known for his columns in the Village Voice from 1969 to 1984 [Wikipedia]. Theresa Maier, who wrote the afterword, was Oppenheimer's third wife and lived with him in New Hampshire until he died of cancer in 1988. She writes that these poems were special to her because they chronicle their time together. She says that the poems are "more than a homage to that sweet time." She also writes that Joel left a lot of things, including over 50 boxes of papers dating back to about 1974. Bound in cream paper covers with white leather strips sewn to the covers. With type designed by Hermann Zapf, and printed on sakamoto and kurotani papers from Aiko's. A lovely copy in fine condition. Measures 5.5 x 9 inches. Unpaginated [about 50 pages].PRI/081224. Fine.
