Western Wilds, and the Men Who Redeem Them. An Authentic Narrative

Cincinnati, Chicago, and Philadelphia: Jones Brothers & Company, 1879. Hardcover. A later edition of this exciting account of seven years travel and adventures in the far west, first published in 1877. An amazing narrative by Beadle, who traveled “to tell the exact truth about the country west of the Mississippi.” With fascinating details about every aspect of the trip, from the people they met, the weather, terrain, and much more. He writes disapprovingly about the Mormons and movingly about the death of Custer. Bound in three quarter brown leather with brown pebbled cloth covers. Title in elaborate gilt lettering to front cover and gilt title and author to spine. Leather is peeled, torn, abraded and bumped. Cloth covers are worn as well. Front hinge is cracked. With a two-page color map of the Indian nations and numerous b&w text illustrations throughout. Interior pages are age toned but text is otherwise generally clean. A nice reading copy of a western classic. Octavo. 624 pages. TRAV/091522. Good +.
