He developed his own shorthand system which was the first to be adopted for use in the United States. Fortunately, this biography was not published in shorthand. In 1848 he went to Washington, DC as a reporter for the US Senate. There he met many people who knew Jackson well during his Presidency. Dyer wrote this biography and a second book about Jackson, as well as numerous other political biographies and histories. Scarce. 12mo. Brown leather binding. Almost all leather on spine has been worn off. Front and back covers show signs of wear, and all edges are scraped. Stain from restained leather shows on front and back end papers. Previous owner's bookplate on inside front cover, and handwritten name and address on back of frontispiece. Second owner's name on 1st page, and publisher's gift stamp on title page. Pages are browned but clean. 378 pages, including index. AMHIST/082522. Good.
