Illustrator George Sinclair worked as a gardener for John, 6th Duke of Bedford in his country home of Woburn Abbery from 1803 to 1820. During this period he conducted experiments using different fertilizers to see their effects on different types of grasses and whether they had a nutritional impact on animals. Rebacked with modern tan buckram and the original red leather title label laid down. Original full tan calf boards with modern endpapers. Scuff marks to spine and wear to label. Wear to boards and edges. Includes numerous hand colored illustrations. Offsetting from illustrations and occasional spots of foxing, but clean and bright overall. 438 pages. NAT/080522. Very Good.
