circa 1856. Cass (1782 - 1866) was an American general and politician. He served under Andrew Jackson and helped to implement his policy of Indian removal. He fought in the war of 1812 and negotiated treaties with native americans. (A small scence depicting Cass with Native Americans discussing a treaty is portrayed beneath his portrait.) Engraved by J.
