circa 1856. Calhoun (1782 - 1850) was an American politician who served as vice-president from 1825 - 1832 under two presidents of different political parties. He was also Secretary of State and Secretary of War as well as a Congressman. From South Carolina - he defended slavery and also supported states rights and limited government. He heavily influenced the South's succession from the Union. Engraved by J. Rogers from a daguerreotype. Foxing. Minor soiling. Size: about 6.75 in x 9.75 in. PRINT/082420. Very Good.
