London: George Bell and Sons, 1901. Hardcover. Herkomer (1849 - 1914) was a German born painter, who lived mostly in England but spent many summers in his native Bavaria. He was known for painting scenes of poor people and also the Queen on her deathbed. He was also an early film director and composer. Sadly, none of his seven films are in existence any longer. Ex-library with sticker removed from spine, pocket to rear, bookplate to front endpaper, and stamp to copyright page. Bound in the original blue cloth boards with gilt title to spine. Leather and gilt title to front board is mostly detached and no longer present; however, embossed title remains legible. Chipping to leather author label to front board. Heavy chipping and wear to spine ends. Minor wear to corners and minor rubbing to boards. Closed tear to bookcloth along rear hinge, but binding remains secure. Filled with full page plates including photogravures of Herkomer's works. 133 pages plus plates. A heavy folio that may require an extra shipping fee. ART/040219. Very Good.
