According to the dedication letter preceding this work, Plumptre felt that plays (including the works of Shakespeare) should be ammended to make that content more "Christian." The discourses that follow examine numerous plays (including Shakespeare) and pick apart various passages deemed problematic due to foul language or non-moral content with recommended alterations / deletions, occasional historical explantions, and other thoughts. Bound in three quarter tan leather over marbled paper covered boards with maroon and gilt title label to spine. Raised bands with gilt decoration to spine. Top edge gilt and marbled endpapers. Wear to edges of boards, spine ends. and corners. A few pulls to leather and scuffing to boards. Bookplate of Franklin Johnston to front endpaper.
