A Collection of the British Statutes in Force in Maryland, According to the Report Thereof Made to the General Assembly by the Late Chancellor Kilty: With Notes and References to the Acts of Assembly and the Code, and to the Principal English and Maryland Cases
Baltimore: Cushings & Bailey, 1870. Hardcover. A comprehensive compilation of the English statutes still entirely or partially in force in Maryland at that time. The editor, Julian Alexander, mildly congratulates himself in the preface for providing the original texts of relevant statutes in an accessible and convenient form. In addition to the text of statutes, there are a list of the statutes, names of cases cited, and an index to principal matters. The book was previously owned by Baltimore attorney William C. Holland. His ownership signature dated 3/22/41 is written in ink on the title page and he has stamped his name on each of the edges and the spine. Either he or another owner of the book wrote a list of the sections and citations to two cases on the front pastedown. There are also occasional light pencil underlining and margin notes. Despite these markings the text pages are in very good condition, with light aging to pages and a few closed tears on few pages of the principal matters index. Bound in tan cloth with red title and black author labels to spine. Binding is rubbed and lightly soiled but still nice. 847 pages. LAW/071217. Very Good.
