While she wrote poetry, fiction, and travel books, her historical works on French court life - such as this one - are what she is most remembered for. Very Good in three quarter brown leather with marbled paper covered boards, raised bands with gilt decorations on spine, and gilt titles to spines. Endpapers and edges are marbled. Minor scuffing and wear to spines, edges of boards, and corners. Frontis engraving in both volumes with tissue guards. In total there are 11 engravings with tissue guards. The engravings are lightly foxed and there are a few spots of foxing to early and late pages, otherwise the text is clean. The title pages are printed in red and black.
