The Cabinet of Friendship; A Tribute to the Memory of the Late John Aiken

London: Whittaker and Co, 1834. Hardcover. John Aiken (1793 - 1833) was the editor of "Constable's Miscellany", "The Cabinet", and several other periodicals. He died very suddenly at a young age and this volume was put together in his memory by the contributors of his periodicals. It includes a breif biography of Aitken and over 30 liteary pieces. The contributors include: C. Torrop, G.P.R. James, William Tennet, W. M. Hetherington, W.C. Taylor, John Malcolm, Henry Inglis, George Moir, James Gardner, Thomas Rosecoe, Robert Chambers, John Macray, Henry Stebbing, William Wilson, John M'Diarmid, Thomas Aitkinson, and Henry G. Bell. Very good in black leather boards with gilt title to spine. Raised bands to spine and bllind stamped rules to boards and spine. There is a two inch crack to fhe front hinge, rubbing to the boards, and wear to the corners and edges. The endpages are purple with a few small dampstains. There are a few small spots of foxing throughout, but overall the interior is clean. Antiquated ownership signature of Ellen Nicole Liverpool to front free endpage. Full edges gilt. A nice 19th century collection of poetry and short stories. 444 pages. Very Good.
