Landscape Art: Past and Present

New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1923. Hardcover. 1 of 1200 copies. The essay was originally written for a meeting of the Friday Club of Chicago in February 1899. It was later printed by the American Park and Outdoor Art Association in pamphlet form. It has been republished here with the original illustrations and added reproductions of ancient and modern landscapes, pictures of Walden, and pictures of the McCormick's home at Lake Forest. Includes 56 illustrations of gardens from around the world such as the hanging gardens of Babylon, gardens of Versailles, Greek garden, Gardens of the Villa Albani in Rome, Kew Gardens in London, Lincoln Park in Chicago, Walden, and many more. Very good in beige cloth backed blue paper covered boards with paper title label to spine. The spine is a bit browned and there are a few small markings to the spine and rear board. Minor wear to the edges and gentle bumping to the corners. There are a few spots of foxing to the fore edge; otherwise, the interior is very clean. Printed on Fabriano paper with deckled edges. The essay is 31 pages and there are 56 plates. ART/070710. Very Good.
