La Divina Commedia
München [Munich]: Bremer Presse, 1921. Hardcover. Number 250 of 300 copies. This is a magnificent production from the famed Bremer Presse of Germany, which published books from 1911 to 1939, interrupted only by World War I. It was founded by Willy Wiegand, and like England's Doves Press, rejected ornament (except for initials) and relied upon carefully chosen types and painstaking presswork to produce its limited edition hand printed books. Bound in blue paper covered boards with cream title label on spine. Binding is rubbed and lightly soiled, with a few spots of foxing and several small chips to paper along spine ends, joints, and edges of boards. There are minor dampstains to the top corner of the front board and to the bottom of the front free endpaper. There is foxing and light soiling to the boards. The spine is slightly browned. There is chipping to the paper in a few places including the spine ends, edges, and along corners. The top front corner is lightly bumped. The interior is clean and bright overall; however, there are occasional spots of foxing throughout. The text block is starting to pull away from the spine. Fore-edges are somewhat darkened. Printed on Zander's handmade paper. Bookseller ticket "Buchandlung Hans Dommes Köln" affixed to front pastedown. A beautiful copy in Italian of Dante's Divine Comedy. Near fine. Measures 13.25 x 8.5 inches. 459 pages plus colophon. PRI/112822. Very Good. More
