One of 1600 copies of this important first edition about German book arts in the 19th and 20th centuries, printed for the members of the Maximilian Society as an annual gift. The Society was founded in 1911 as an association of bibliophiles providing support for modern German book arts. The text volume is by Georg Kurt Schauer. Volume II is the extensively illustrated overview of individual German book artists, presses, and designers, with the illustrations and the bibliography compiled by the board of the society. Bound in beige cloth with paper title labels to cover and spine. LIght wear with fading to the spine labels and bump to top edge of first volume. Volume I has a pencil note saying that the book was a gift from Schauer. Missing the slipcase. In very good condition. Inserted is a list of member donors for the publication. Quarto.
