circa 1868. 19th Century Engraving. Livingstone (1813 - 1873) was a Scottish doctor and explorer known best for his adventures in Africa. An advocate for British colonialism, but also a strong opponent to slavery. He helped to end the East African Arab-Swahili slave trade. Printed by Alonzo Chappel from a photograph taken in 1867. Interior is clean with only slight soiling to bottom edge of textblock and a crease to the ffep. Very good brown & white DJ with an open tear to foot of spine which corresponds to bump in spine and minor wear to corners.
