London: Whittaker and Co., 1837. Hardcover. First edition of this last work by the author. Henry David Inglis (1795–1835) was a Scottish travel writer and journalist. Inglis was born in Edinburgh, and was educated for a business career. He spent time travelling abroad. In 1832 Inglis went to the Channel Islands, and edited a Jersey newspaper. This was his last literary work, written shortly before his early, unfortunate death. Bound in brown leather with gilt rulings to covers and spine compartments. With red leather spine labels, with a piece missing from one. Tear along first inch of right joint. Leather is chipped, rubbed, and bumped. Marbled endpapers and page edges. Spotting and foxing to first few pages and to the six b&w illustrations by George Cruikshank. Bookplate of Richard Shuttleworth Streatfeild. About very good. Measures 4.5 x 7.5 inches. 203 pages.
