This special issue includes articles by Halla Beloff on social interaction in photographing, Pavel Machotka on Cezanne's landscapes and the function of vision, Gerald C. Cupchik on the scientific study of artistic creativity, Ken Rouse on psychological processes in the development of the creativity of Van Gogh and Faraday, and more. Very good in three quarter brown leather with brown cloth covered boards. Four raised bands, gilt title, gilt date, and modest gilt decoration to spine. Rubbing and light soiling to boards and wear to edges. Pencil inscription from previous owner to front endpage. Two engravings (possibly cut from the magazine?) are pasted down to the endpages. Does not include any colored plates and only includes 2 of the engraved black and white plates (plus 2 that may have been cut out and pasted onto endpages). Marbled endpages. Foxing throughout. Original paper wrappers are attached to the modern spine and missing lettering has been hand calligraphed. Title to front wrapper only. Closed tears to wrappers repaired with archival tape. Dampstaining to edge of front wrapper and to margins of first few pages. Toning to pages. Occasional spots of foxing, but clean overall. Illustrated. Includes several tipped in color illustrations. It first appeared in 1849 as part of the New-York Daily Tribune obituary for Poe. Also contains “The Poetic Principle” on pages 231-239, from the unpublished manuscript. Both volumes are bound together in modern three-quarter black leather with marbled paper covered boards. Silver title to spine with five raised bands. Marbled endpapers.
