It covers the period from August 26, 1945, the day before the shooting of the film, to June 1, 1946, the day after the film was shown privately in its final version. Cocteau wrote of the film's making and of the lives of those who made it. He also talks about the film itself, and how and why the fairy-tale world should be translated into film. There are 38 photograhs illustrating every location and set on which Cocteau did filming. There aer also 69 new footnotes on films, people, and places that Cocteau mentions in the text.
