The Golden Age
London and New York: John Lane and Stone and Kimball, 1895. Hardcover. First edition of Grahame's second book. Most of the stories had appeared in various publications such as the National Observer and the Yellow Book. Two articles are tipped in the back of the book. One is a lengthy 1903 article about an attempt to shoot Grahame when he was secretary to the Bank of England. The other is a piece on the author that describes The Golden Age as always being a fountain of delight. Bound in original dark blue cloth boards with author and title in gilt to spine. Top and bottom of spine are chipped, corners bumped, and wrinkle in front board. Aging to page margins. Otherwise very good. 196 pages + 16 page John Lane catalogue. LIT/040215. Very Good. More
