These indexes were prepared in response to an 1827 request made by the governor of North Carolina to Arthur Gallatin, the American minister in London, for his assistance in procuring documents held by the English government pertaining to the early history of North Carolina. The detailed indexes are for documents issued from 1663 to 1777. Bound in three quarter brown leather with marbled paper boards and red leather title label. Leather and boards are chipped, scuffed, and stained. Front hinge is cracked but text block is still attached. Some pages are creased by what appears to be pressure from another book. Scattered foxing throughout not affecting legibility. Ownership label of English banker and politician Richard Biddulph Martin on half title page. A decent copy of this uncommon publication. This is a charming version of the beloved fairy tale Beauty and the Beast, first written by Gabrielle-Suzanne de Villeneuve in the 18th century. With six bright color chromolithographs depicting 10 scenes from the story. Softcover with a bright pictorial front cover and a list of Hachette titles from their series on the rear cover. Light soiling to cover edges and a small crease to the front cover top edge. Lower few inches of the covers are split, not affecting the text block except for a corresponding split. Spotting to title page and inside of covers. Offsetting to text pages next to illustrations. Still a nice copy of this uncommon 19th century children's book. Measures 7.25 x 9.5 inches. A nice set of this early compilation of the laws of Massachusetts and those of its earlier periods as a colony, province, and state. Each volume has the index for all of the volumes. Bound in contemporary brown leather with inlaid leather rulings to covers, spine compartments, and black leather title labels. Leather is abraded, soiled, and bumped. Hinges are tender but text blocks are tight. Offsetting and foxing to pastedowns and endpapers. Interior pages are browned with scattered foxing, but text is quite legible. The text is beautifully adorned with a gilt frame, small gilt circular decorations, There is a decorative symbol in the margin of one page done in blue and red inks and gilt. Chester and Tucker were accused of slandering Reverend Cumming, who in turn was accused of inappropriate behavior. Bound in full brown leather with red leather spine label. Leather is stained and worn with tender hinges. Offsetting to endpapers, and browning to pages. With a fold-out sheet outlining the charges by the committee at various points in the proceedings. Philadelphia: M. Carey, Jan. 9, 1815. Hardcover. This edition was published just two months after the first. Carey describes it as amplified, methodised and improved over the first edition. The book appeared during a "convulsed period of history" as an effort to create unity between the two American parties against the British during the War of 1812. Bound in original paper boards, badly browned and faded, with spine missing. Front and rear boards loose but holding. Some signatures are cracked but the text block is holding firm. Pages are browned and foxed throughout but legible and readable. Dampstaining to rear end pages. A decent copy of this important historical work. 336 pages. AMHIST/033010. Very Good. More

Newark, Delaware: University of Delaware Library, 2000. Softcover. Paul Bowles (1910-1999) was an American expatriate composer, author, and translator. [Wikipedia] He is most frequently associated with the city of Tangier, where he settled in 1947 after having first visited in 1931. His first novel, The Sheltering Sky, was set in French North Africa. Bowles was a prolific composer, writer (especially short stories), and translator. He studied music with Aaron Copland and was a compatriot of writers such as Truman Capote, Tennessee Williams and Gore Vidal. This catalog is of an exhibition of the Special Collections of the Hugh M. Morris Library at the University of Delaware. It includes chapters on poetry, music, novels, short stories, translations, travel writing, and life writing. Includes numerous color plates of items in the exhibition. Small quarto. 1939. Hardcover. Black oblong leatherette covers titled "photographs" in gilt and stab bound with black string. Includes black and white photographs from a vacation in 1939 of natural bridges, Smoky Mountain views from TN, pelicans and alligators in St. Petersburg, FL, aquatic gardens (Rainbow Springs, FL) pictures taken through the bottom of a glass bottom boat, Tarpon Spring, FL, the campus of the University of Tampa, St. Augustine, FL, Dayton Beach, and "Cotton Pickers". The next images are dated 1946, then back to 1941 - Niagra Falls and Eaglesmere, PA. Several pages of family photos are included included a few dated 1948 and captioned "the last time Aunt Carrie visited us." The next few pages dated September 1948 showcase Sherwood or "Sherry" - a little white and grey tuxedo kitten. Family photos from Ocean City, MD dated August 1957 follow. Then a few pages showing the growth of "Betty Ann Rice" from 1940 - 1949. Then more vacation pictures - Chateau Frontenac dated 1939, Ausable Chasm, NY, Quebec and views of the St. Lawrence River, then yellowed images of Yellowstone National Park dated 1953, followed by some stunning images of the Badlands. Next is Mark Twain's home in Hannibal, MO - then the Grand Teton Mountains followed by Lincoln's home in Springfield, IL, Salt Lake City and Utah's Copper Mine. Then more family dated 1953 "Mom's 72nd birthday." The rest of the album is blank. Includes over 150 photographs with a few photographic postcards mounted as well.
