Thephilos III was elected Patriarch by the Holy Synod of Jerusalem of the Greek Orthodox Church in August, 2005. He is the 141 prelate. His book inscription reads "With our best wishes and blessings for your efforts to promote human dignity and respect/Theophilis. Patriarch of Jerusalem/Jerusalem/September 1st, 2006" The recipient is not named. The inscription on the color photograph is "With best wishes and Patriarchal blessing of [his name] Jerusalem September 1st, 2006." This scarce book provides color photographs of a selection of minatures from the Byzantine illuminated manuscripts in the partriarchal library. Previously published pictures were almost always in black and white. Each selection is accompanied by a description of the miniature, along with its provenance and a bibliography. Small folio in fine condition. Dark blue dust jacket with white title and author to spine and front cover, and illustration from a manuscript.
