The Masterpieces of French Art. Illustrated. Being a Biographical History of Art in France, from the Earliest Period to and Including the Salon of 1882. Volume I.

Philadelphia: Gebbie & Co. 1883. Hard Cover. Good oversize full leather quarto. Front board detached, remnants of leather cover present but also detached. Spine heavily worn, leather chipped and cracked; gilt title is only partly present. Rope visible where raised bands have completely worn away. Rear board is also detached and lacks its original leather cover. In need of a new binding. Interior is foxed throughout, worse in some spots than others, though text is bright and easily readable. Over 100 beautiful tissue-guarded photogravure plates in very good plus condition w/light foxing in the margins. The stunning plates make up for the poor condition of the binding. Art ART/5283. Good.
