Book Details
Jones, Charles Colcock Jr. LLDThe Life and Services of Ex-Governor Charles Jones Jenkins
Atlanta: Jas. P. Harrison & Co. 1884. Wraps. 1 of 500 copies. Inscribed by author on front cover: "With the complimentsof Charles C. Jones Jr." Charles Jones Jenkins (1805-1883) was an important political figure in Georgia. He may be best known for defying military authority while governor of the state during the Reconstruction from 1865-1868. Laid in is a card with Jenkins's signature title, and the date 1866 affixed to a larger piece of paper. This address by Charles Jones is both a biography and a homage to the ex-governor's accomplishments. Charles C. Jones is himself known as one of the foremost Georgia historians of the 19th century. In light brown wrappers with chips to edges and spine, and soiling to front cover. There is also an ink line of about three inches on bottom. Interior pages are clean with chipping to fore-edge, and a light crease front to back as if it had been folded in half at some point. Otherwise a very good copy of this scarce publication. 56 pages. AMHIST/081911. Very Good in Wraps.
