New York: Harper & Brothers, 1871. Hard Cover. FIRST AMERICAN EDITION. Very good in original purple cloth boards, though mostly faded to light brown, especially along spine. Bright gilt to spine, which is slightly rolled; also light wear to spine ends and corners. Interior is in very nice shape: tightly bound, quite clean pages, virtually no foxing or spotting. Endpapers bear light soiling and small dampstain but rest of interior shows no sign of liquid damage. Small amount of chipping to a few early pages. Frontispiece w/tissue guard + several illustrations w/i text. Double-columned text. 282 pp. A nice, decent copy. Literature. LIT/11063. Very Good.

London: Ward, Lock and co., n.d. Hard Cover. New Edition.Very good minus olive green cloth w/intricate black, green & gilt stamping to front cover and spine, which is darkened. Boards lightly rubbed but clean; spine cocked; corners, spine ends worn. Interior is mostly clean, no foxing to text though staples through the hinge have rusted and stained the hinge between most pages, though text is unaffected and remains bright. Brown floral patterned endpapers, ffep lacks a 1/4 strip. Pages are tightly bound. 392 pp. + ads. Literature. LIT/11193. Very Good -.

Spine faded, head/foot of spine worn; small whitish stain to rear board; wear to corners. Black coated endpapers; antiquated signature to early flyleaf; interior is quite clean, though some light spotting in some areas, heaviest on early/late pages. 4 illustrated plates, including frontispiece.
